In a thrilling twist to the Spider-Man saga, Sony Pictures has dropped the first trailer for “Madame Web,” featuring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney. This suspenseful thriller expands the Marvel universe, introducing fresh characters into the web-slinging narrative.
Taking center stage is Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic seemingly endowed with clairvoyant powers that unveil glimpses into the future and the intricate spider world. The trailer reveals her encounter with a trio of young women, including Sydney Sweeney’s character, Julia Carpenter, who, in the comics, later assumes the role of Spider-Woman. Together, they embark on a journey to unravel Cassandra’s past and navigate the perilous present.
The ensemble cast also includes Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, and Zosia Mamet.
Following the triumph of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” Sony Pictures continues to tap into the audience’s appetite for web-slinging adventures. “Madame Web” is the latest addition to Sony’s Marvel Characters universe, following the success of “Venom” (2018), “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (2021), and “Morbius” (2022), starring Tom Hardy and Jared Leto, respectively.
Upcoming projects for Sony include the third installment of “Venom,” slated for release on Nov. 8, 2024, and “Kraven the Hunter,” featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, scheduled for Aug. 30, 2024. Notably, “Madame Web” marks Sony’s first foray into a comic book adaptation with a female lead.
Directed by SJ Clarkson, known for her work on Marvel’s “Jessica Jones” and “The Defenders,” “Madame Web” is set to swing into theaters on Feb. 14, 2024.
