Oregon State vs Colorado: Despite a late rally, Colorado’s struggles continue as they lose 26-19 to No. 16 Oregon State, putting their bowl eligibility in jeopardy.
Colorado’s struggles continued on Saturday as they fell to No. 16 Oregon State in a hard-fought battle at Folsom Field. Despite a change in the play caller with Pat Shurmur taking over the duties earlier in the week, the Buffaloes couldn’t reverse their fortunes, losing their third consecutive game and fifth in their last six. The final score was 26-19 in favor of the Beavers.
The Beavers improved their record to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in Pac-12 play, while Colorado’s season record dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Colorado’s defense put up a valiant effort, collecting two first-half fumble recoveries, one of which led to a field goal for the Buffaloes. However, the offense struggled for most of the game, managing just one field goal in the first three quarters. The Colorado offense finally found some life in the fourth quarter, producing two impressive 75-yard scoring drives.
CU’s quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, was under constant pressure and was sacked four times during the game, bringing his season sack total to 45. Despite the challenges, Sanders completed 24 of 39 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns.
The Beavers steadily pounded away, scoring two touchdowns in the first half and adding another touchdown and two field goals in the second half to maintain their lead.
In a late-game rally, Colorado managed to score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap to 26-19 with just 1:42 remaining. However, Oregon State successfully ran out the clock after gaining a first down, securing the victory.
The Buffaloes’ offense struggled throughout the game, finishing with only 238 total yards, including a mere minus-7 yards rushing due to four sacks that resulted in 41 yards in losses. In contrast, Oregon State totaled 418 yards, with 223 in the air and 195 on the ground.
Despite the disappointment of their recent performances, Coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders praised his team’s effort and determination. He emphasized the need for consistency in all four quarters of the game, acknowledging the frustration of falling short when they know they are capable of better performances.
The turning point of the game came just before halftime when a gamble by Colorado to try to move the ball from deep in their territory backfired. This decision allowed Oregon State to score a late touchdown and take a 14-3 lead into the locker room.
Colorado is now in danger of missing out on a bowl bid after being ranked in the top 25 earlier in the season. To become bowl-eligible, they must win two of their remaining three games.
The Buffaloes face a tough challenge ahead as they look to regroup and find the consistency they need to turn their season around.
