In the video, Schnapp lip-synced to a popular TikTok sound while lying in bed, stating “When I finally informed my friends and family I was homosexual after hiding for 18 years out of fear, all they replied was ‘we know.'” Schnapp’s character in “Stranger Things,” Will Byers, is also gay and has feelings for his friend Mike Wheeler.
In July, Schnapp spoke to Variety about his character’s sexuality, saying “I mean, it’s very evident this season that Will has feelings for Mike…I believe for Season 4, it was just me portraying this character who loves his best friend but struggles with knowing if he’ll be welcomed or not, and feels like a mistake and like he doesn’t belong.” He added that Will’s feelings had “always kind of been there.”
