Adipurush, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2023. Directed by Om Raut, the movie is based on the epic Ramayana. With a staggering budget of Rs. 500 crores and high-end VFX, the film promises to be a visual spectacle. In this review, we will explore whether Adipurush lives up to the hype and expectations.
The Story of Adipurush Movie
The story of Adipurush follows the journey of Raghava (Prabhas), an incarnation of Lord Rama, and his wife Janaki (Kriti Sanon), who represents Goddess Sita. Alongside them is Raghava’s brother Shesh (Sunny Singh), embodying Lakshmana. Exiled to the forest, their peaceful life is disrupted when Lankesh (Saif Ali Khan), an incarnation of Ravana, kidnaps Janaki and takes her to his kingdom of Lanka. Raghava embarks on a mission to rescue his beloved wife, aided by Hanuman (Devdatta Nage) and his army of monkeys.
Cast Performance of Adipurush Movie
The film’s biggest strength is its star cast, especially Saif Ali Khan, who steals the show as the menacing Lankesh. He delivers a powerful performance as the arrogant and ambitious king who lusts after Janaki and challenges Raghava. His dialogues, expressions and body language are spot on and he makes you hate him with his evil deeds. Prabhas, on the other hand, is decent as Raghava, but he does not have much scope to showcase his acting skills. He mostly relies on his charisma and screen presence to carry the role. He does shine in some scenes, especially in the action sequences and the climax. Kriti Sanon is also good as Janaki, but she does not have much to do except look beautiful and act helpless. She does share good chemistry with Prabhas and has some emotional moments in the second half. Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage are adequate in their supporting roles.
Visual Effects and Editing of Adipurush Movie
Adipurush’s biggest weakness lies in its disappointing VFX, considering the film’s scale and budget. The visual effects often appear cartoonish and unrealistic, especially in scenes involving monkeys and the flying chariot. Additionally, the film suffers from poor editing, leading to dragging moments in some parts and abrupt transitions in others. Trimming the film by at least 15 minutes could have made it more engaging and concise.
Music and Cinematography of Adipurush Movie
The music by M.M. Keeravani is average, lacking memorable songs or background scores. However, the action sequences are the film’s highlight, boasting well-choreographed and executed scenes. K.K. Senthil Kumar’s cinematography captures the grandeur and beauty of the locations and sets, providing stunning visuals throughout the movie. Manoj Muntashir’s dialogues infuse humor and emotion into the script, staying true to the original Ramayana story without unnecessary deviations.
Verdict
Adipurush is a good film that will appeal to the fans of Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Ramayana. It is a visual treat with some amazing action sequences and performances. However, it could have been better with improved VFX, editing, and music. It is not a masterpiece, but it is not a disaster either. It is a one-time watch for sure.
