RRR’s “Naatu Naatu” makes history with Oscar nomination for Best Original Song
It’s official, SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated period action film “RRR” has made history with its hit track “Naatu Naatu” earning a nomination for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. The film’s official website tweeted,
“WE CREATED HISTORY!! Proud and privileged to share that #NaatuNaatu has been nominated for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards.”
The film’s official website tweeted
This is the third major international recognition for the song composed by MM Keeravaani and written by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, after Keeravani won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice award for the track earlier this month. The film also won another Critics Choice award for Best Foreign Language Film.
The film, “RRR” (Rise Roar Revolt) is a pre-independence fictional story that follows the lives of two real-life Indian revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) – in the 1920s.
This is not the first time a Hindi song has been nominated for an Academy Award. In 2008, “Jai Ho” from the British film “Slumdog Millionaire,” directed by Danny Boyle, won an Academy Award in the Best Original Score and Original Song categories. It was composed by AR Rahman and written by Gulzar.
The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were announced by Hollywood actors Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams, and the Oscars will take place on March 12.
