The Streamy Awards 2023 returned to Los Angeles on Sunday, August 27, to celebrate the remarkable achievements and successes of online media creators. What began in 2009 as a platform to acknowledge outstanding web series has now expanded to encompass creators across various digital domains, including music, beauty, comedy, food, and gaming.
Hosted by seven-time Streamy winner MatPat, renowned for his YouTube channel, The Game Theorists, the 13th Streamy Awards featured a star-studded lineup of presenters, including Dylan Mulvaney, Drew Afualo, Delaney Rowe, Kris Collins, Pinkydoll, Anna Sitar, Brianna Chickenfry, and xQc.
MrBeast, a dominant force in the digital sphere, led the nominations with five nods and secured the prestigious Creator of the Year award for the fourth consecutive year. Meanwhile, Michelle Khare claimed the Show of the Year title for “Challenge Accepted,” and Dylan Mulvaney was honored as the Breakout Creator.
The Streamy Awards also welcomed newcomers to the scene, recognizing the talents of food connoisseur Keith Lee and rising TikTok comedian Jake Shane. The show highlighted the diverse landscape of online content creation, including established figures like Amelia Dimoldenberg of “Chicken Shop Date,” TikTok sensation Chris Olsen, and makeup guru Mikayla Nogueira.
For the first time in its history, the Streamy Awards introduced the Rolling Stone Sound of the Year award, celebrating the songs that dominated social platforms. The inaugural winner was Meghan Trainor for her track “Made You Look,” with nominees including Kaliii, PinkPantheress, Ice Spice, Doechii, Coi Leray, Armani White, d4vd, Sam Smith, and Kim Petras.
MatPat, the evening’s host, shared his excitement for the event, stating, “Right now, we’re at an inflection point for the industry, so we’ve designed this year’s show to embody all the wild and weird moments that have defined the last fifteen years of digital content. It’s both a time of nostalgia as well as looking ahead to the future, and as a result, this year’s show will have something for everyone…a Greatest Hits of Online Video, if you will.”
