If you’re looking for a film that has it all, Ghosted is a must-see. This action-romantic-comedy stars Marvel’s Chris Evans as Cole, a local farmer who falls head over heels for Sadie (Ana de Armas) on their first date. But things take a wild turn when he learns that Sadie is not who she seems to be – she’s actually a CIA agent involved in an international spy mission to save the world.
As Cole and Sadie fight to stay alive, they encounter a slew of bounty hunters played by some very familiar faces. Anthony Mackie shows up, only to be killed by another assassin played by John Cho. But then Cho’s character is killed by Sebastian Stan, who is then run over by a car driven by Mackie’s not-quite-dead character. And as if that wasn’t enough, Ryan Reynolds shows up in a surprise cameo as yet another one of Sadie’s exes.
But the real surprise behind these cameos is the story of how they came to be. Director Dexter Fletcher revealed that the actors all flew out to the Atlanta set for one very cold night of filming, all thanks to Evans. Apparently, Ryan Reynolds said privately that when he called Evans for a cameo in his movie, Evans came the next day. And so when Evans asked him to return the favor, Reynolds jumped at the chance.
Despite how much he didn’t want to ask his friends to do the cameos, Evans loved having them on set and how their scenes turned out. “It’s fun seeing all those faces,” he says. “They’re old buddies, so it just kind of feels good. It’s like when your buddy does pick you up from the airport, you’re like, ‘Thanks man. Thanks for showing up.'”
And the cameos aren’t the only thing that makes Ghosted a great film. The action scenes are thrilling, the romance is sweet, and the comedy is hilarious. So if you’re in the mood for a movie that has it all, Ghosted is a perfect choice.
