In a remarkable display of offensive prowess, the Miami Dolphins returned home to Hard Rock Stadium after securing two consecutive road wins to kick off the 2023 NFL season. Their performance was nothing short of historic, as they blazed their way to a 70-20 victory over the Denver Broncos.

Miami etched their name into the record books as the first NFL team since the 1950 Los Angeles Rams to amass an astounding 70 points in a single game. The Dolphins also established franchise records with a whopping 726 total yards of offense, coming just nine yards shy of the NFL’s all-time record, set by the 1951 Los Angeles Rams. Additionally, their ground game was on fire, accumulating a single-game franchise-best 350 rushing yards.

The dynamic running back duo of De’Von Achane (4 touchdowns, 236 yards) and Raheem Mostert (4 touchdowns, 142 yards) was the heart of this offensive explosion.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa orchestrated the offense with precision, tallying an impressive 309 yards and four touchdowns on 23-of-26 passing. He achieved a career-high passer rating of 155.8, delighting the home crowd of 65,522.

The excitement started just 83 seconds into the game when Tagovailoa connected with wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who found himself wide open in the middle of the field for a touchdown. The Dolphins’ defense forced a quick three-and-out, paving the way for Tagovailoa to lead a nine-play drive culminating in Achane’s first NFL touchdown, putting Miami in the lead 21-7.

Denver’s Russell Wilson retaliated with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton, but Tagovailoa swiftly responded with an 11-play, 75-yard scoring drive, capping it off with a four-yard, no-look pass to Achane. This pushed the Dolphins further ahead at 35-10, although Broncos kicker Will Lutz added three points just before halftime.

Tagovailoa closed the first half with a perfect 16-of-16 record, amassing 206 yards, two touchdowns, and a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

The Dolphins’ defense continued its dominance in the second half, forcing a quick Broncos punt. The offense capitalized on this momentum, and Mostert scored his fourth touchdown of the day on a one-yard run, extending Miami’s lead to 42-13 with 7:52 left in the third quarter.

Jevon Holland was a defensive standout, forcing two fumbles, one of which cornerback Kader Kohou recovered. Mostert made his presence known again, scoring his fourth touchdown with a mesmerizing run and catch. This performance marked the second game in his career with both a rushing and receiving touchdown.

The Dolphins didn’t let up, adding three more touchdowns in the final quarter. Tagovailoa threw a 10-yard pass to Achane, and backup quarterback Mike White connected with Robbie Chosen for a spectacular 68-yard touchdown. Marvin Mims Jr. added Denver’s last points with a 99-yard kickoff return, but Achane was not finished. He scored yet again, this time on a spectacular 67-yard run, bringing Miami to the historic 70-point mark.

Tyreek Hill led all receivers with nine receptions for 157 yards and a touchdown, extending his scoring streak to three consecutive games this season.

While the Dolphins’ offensive prowess took center stage, their defense also delivered an exceptional performance, limiting the Broncos to just one offensive touchdown and forcing three turnovers, two of which led to the Dolphins beginning their drives inside the Broncos’ 10-yard line.

Denver’s Russell Wilson accumulated 306 passing yards on 13 possessions, while the Broncos struggled to maintain a meager 3.5 yards per carry compared to Miami’s impressive 8.1.

The Dolphins now set their sights on the road, as they prepare to face the Buffalo Bills (2-1) on October 1st at Highmark Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
