Jerry Grote, Backbone Of Young Mets dies at 81

Jerry Grote, Who is the starting Catcher of the Met's World series Championship team in 1969.

He Died on Sunday evening aged 81 follwing a heart procedure,his wife Cheryl declared on facebook.

Grote had died at the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute in Austin, Texas.

Grote was a Mets Hall of Famer and known as best Defensive Catcher in the Frachise history.

Grote Born and grown in San Antonio, he started his carreer playing with the Houston Astros.

In 1963 he debut in MLB and played 103 games with Astros from 1963-64.

Ater that he transferred to the mets and played their from 1966-77 and selected for the All Star game in 1968 and 1974.

Met inducted Grote in the hall of fame in 1992 and he was also member of the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame and the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame.
