Eagles Set to Hire Kellen Moore as New Offensive Coordinator

Eagles eye offensive resurgence with Kellen Moore as new coordinator. Bringing fresh ideas to elevate Jalen Hurts and revitalize the team’s performance.

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly on the verge of hiring Kellen Moore as their new offensive coordinator, marking the third individual to hold this position in as many years, according to an NFL Network report. This move comes after parting ways with Brian Johnson after just one season.

Moore, who served as the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys from 2019 to 2022 and the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, brings a wealth of experience to the Eagles. The decision to bring in Moore comes in the wake of the Eagles’ offensive struggles during the recent season, prompting the team to seek a fresh perspective for quarterback Jalen Hurts and the offense as a whole.

Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed the team’s rationale for the hire, emphasizing the need for new ideas and the incorporation of successful strategies from Moore’s past. “We’re bringing in a guy to bring in new ideas, to do the things that he’s done in the past,” Sirianni stated. “It’d be crazy not to add some of the things that we’ve done in the past here, as well.”

Sirianni outlined their vision for the new offensive coordinator, emphasizing the importance of finding someone with a clear vision, play-calling ability, and the coaching expertise necessary to work closely with quarterback Jalen Hurts. “A guy who has a vision, a guy who’s going to call the plays, a guy who’s going to be able to coach a quarterback,” Sirianni explained.

The Eagles seem confident that Moore can fulfill this role effectively. Sirianni stressed the importance of the new coordinator collaborating closely with Hurts to guide the team back to a competitive position.

During Moore’s tenure as the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, his offense ranked second in points per game (27.7) and achieved top-6 offensive rankings three times. However, with the Chargers, his offense ranked 21st.

Moore’s coaching career began as the quarterbacks coach for the Cowboys in 2018, where he was subsequently promoted the following season. The Eagles also considered other candidates for the position, including former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson.

The move to bring in Kellen Moore reflects the Eagles’ commitment to revitalizing their offensive strategy and fostering a collaborative relationship with Jalen Hurts to ensure a successful upcoming season.
