In the opening round on Thursday, Tiger Woods hits his tee shot at the third hole.

Tiger Woods, a five-time champion, fought "continuous" agony throughout the opening round of his 25th Masters at Augusta National as Jon Rahm pulled off an incredible comeback.

The five-time Masters champion fell nine strokes short of his Norwegian partner Viktor Hovland.

Hovland entered the clubhouse tied for the lead following an exhilarating seven-under opening round.

Before settling for a 65, Hovland came very close to surpassing the course record of 63 held by Nick Price and Greg Norman.

Previous Open champion Shane Lowry, 2013 champion Adam Scott, and reigning champion Scottie Scheffler all shot 68, matching Schauffele's score.

Woods, a fifteen time major champion's comptetive outings were irregular due to several leg injuries in a car crash in 2021.

In his previous 24 outings at Augusta, Woods only once missed the cut.
