Chris Beard, the men's basketball coach at Texas, has been placed on administrative leave "until further notice" following his felony domestic violence arrest on Monday.
The University takes seriously any instances of community members being victims of interpersonal violence.
Police in Austin, Texas, detained 49-year-old Beard and booked him at 4:18 a.m. CT on an accusation of "attack of a family/household member, restrict breath circulation," or strangling.
After posting a cash bond, Beard was freed from the Travis County jail at 2:44 PM. $10,000 had been allocated as bail for Beard.
Beard is allowed to have non-threatening conversations with the alleged victim.
Beard cannot own a firearm and must remain 200 yards away from the home where police were called.
Perry Minton, Beard's attorney, told the Austin American-Statesman that his client "is completely innocent of these claims."
