A player for the New Orleans Saints has been detained and is facing charges of aggravated assault with a weapon.

The Saints' starting safety Marcus Maye, 29, was detained on Thursday following a road rage incident in Metairie, Louisiana.

Maye allegedly drove a black SUV before allegedly pointing a firearm at another vehicle occupied by several juvenile females.

On Thursday, the Saints player was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

He was released after posting a $30,000 bail bond.

Maye's arrest comes just ten days before the start of the NFL's regular season.

The Saints will play the Atlanta Falcons in their first game of the season on September 11 at 1 p.m.

The Saints signed the starting safety to a three-year, $28.5 million contract in March.

Maye spent five years with the New York Jets before joining the Saints.
