Early on Saturday morning, a 29-year-old man was shot to death aboard a South Side CTA Red Line train.
The 79th Street Red Line station was the scene of a shooting at 3:22 in the morning.
According to police, an unidentified male fired rounds during the incident.
After being sent to a hospital affiliated with the University of Chicago, the 29-year-old man was declared deceased.
His chest and abdomen were both wounded by gunshots.
Although no one has been taken into custody, the event is being investigated by Chicago police.
In a statement, the CTA promised to support the Chicago police's inquiry.
Following the incident, CTA President Dorval Carter announced that canine teams would return to the trains as a non-armed security force.
More police officers will also be sent to CTA trains starting on Saturday.
