T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers avoided a season-ending injury in Week 1’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He won’t be able to escape going on injured reserve, either.

The Steelers just formally put Watt on injured reserve. He must sit out the next four games, at the very least.

Given that the Steelers anticipate Watt missing the next six weeks, this decision makes sense.

Watt sought out second and third opinions regarding his ailment after suffering a torn pectoral in Week 1.

In the end, it was decided that the current Defensive Player of the Year won’t require surgery.

Watt tied the record with 22.5 sacks the previous year. The rest of the roster will be under a lot of pressure to perform well in his absence because of his injuries.

With three sacks in Pittsburgh’s season opener, Alex Highsmith had an outstanding day. For Mike Tomlin’s defense, he must keep making plays.

Over the coming weeks, the Steelers will also need Malik Reed and Jamir Jones to contribute.

Watt has already hinted at his upcoming comeback by tweeting a Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger meme with the words “I’ll be back.”
