The Miami Dolphins were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in their crucial game, but Jimmy Garoppolo's broken foot cost the 49ers another starting quarterback for the season.
In their rematch of the playoffs, Joe Burrow led the Cincinnati Bengals to victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, and Aaron Rodgers inspired the Green Bay Packers to victory over the Chicago Bears.
Deshaun Watson was booed upon his return and the Philadelphia Eagles won again to still hold the NFL's best record at 11-1.
Numerous prominent athletes suffered injuries, and an unusual tie game occurred when the New York Giants and Washington Commanders were unable to be divided.
In a matchup between two of the league's hottest teams, the 49ers relied on rookie Brock Purdy to lead them to a 33-17 victory over the Dolphins and move them to 8-4 overall.
The 49ers lost their second quarterback of the year after losing starter Trey Lance earlier in the season when Garoppolo, who guided them to the Super Bowl three seasons ago, departed the game with a fractured foot.
San Francisco, one of the finest teams in the league, is now led by rookie Purdy at quarterback, and they have real Super Bowl prospects. As the 262nd and final choice in the 2022 NFL draft, he has earned the awful moniker of "Mr Irrelevant" for this season.
With two touchdown passes, Purdy responded admirably, but the Niners' defense once again stole the show as they shut down Miami's once-flying attack by sacking Tua Tagovailoa three times, intercepting him twice, and forcing a fumble.
