Lions head coach Dan Campbell spotlighted the contested nickel cornerback spot ahead of joint practices with the New York Giants.

Early in camp, veterans Emmanuel Moseley and Amik Robertson shared first-team reps, while rookie Ennis Rakestraw Jr. played both inside and outside.

Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu recently began working at the nickel cornerback spot to see if it’s a good fit for him.

Moseley suffered a significant pectoral injury during joint practices, sidelining him indefinitely.

Amik Robertson, who has played both inside and outside, now emerges as an early favorite for the slot role.

Coach Campbell noted, “Certainly, we know Branch can go and play that position if needed – I'm talking about kind of down the road, not today.”

Campbell emphasized that the team has options and is not stressed, focusing on finding the best defensive combination.

The competition for the Lions' nickel cornerback spot intensifies, with several players showing potential to step up.
