Lea Michele will be the next "Funny Girl" on Broadway, replacing Beanie Feldstein, who announced her departure from the show earlier than expected.

The show announced on Monday that the "Glee" star would take over for Feldstein, whose run as Fanny Brice, the famed comedian and vaudeville performer, will end on July 31.

Michele will start her tenure on September 4

According to the production, Feldstein's replacement, Julie Benko, will perform until Michele joins the cast.

Feldstein's co-star Jane Lynch will leave the production in September, and  will be replaced by Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh. Lynch co-starred with Michele on "Glee."

The first Broadway revival of "Funny Girl" has received mixed reviews, with many criticising Feldstein's performance.

The revival of "Funny Girl" opened on Broadway's August Wilson Theatre on April 24 to mixed reviews.

However, the casting reunites Michele with "Spring Awakening" director Michael Mayer, who also produces and directs "Funny Girl."

The revival, which came six decades after the original, only received one Tony nomination for Jared Grimes' portrayal of Eddie Ryan, a vaudeville dancer whom Brice meets.
