A lightning strike across the street from the White House has left four individuals in critical condition.

Lafayette Park, which is located across the street from the White House, was struck by lightning.

The victims included two adult males and two adult females.

When assistance arrived, all four had severe, potentially fatal injuries.

Under a tree, the victims were sheltering from the storm when lightening strikes.

Two men and two women were transferred to nearby hospital.

Police arrived quickly to assist with the response.

Around 7 p.m. ET Thursday, a severe thunderstorm hit the DC area.

It was unclear whether their conditions had improved since they were admitted to the hospital.
