Novak Djokovic remained unfazed by the home crowd's support as he advanced to the U.S. Open semifinals.
The 36-year-old Serbian secured a 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 victory over the last American contender, Ben Shelton.
Djokovic expressed his passion for Grand Slam events, emphasizing their significance in motivating him to deliver his best tennis.
Despite his confidence, 20-year-old
Shelton
couldn't overcome Djokovic's experience and power on the court.
Djokovic's strategic approach often involved tiring out Shelton and creating opportunities to win points.
In the third set, Shelton showed resilience, leading 5-4 with a set point, but Djokovic held his serve, leading to a tiebreaker that Djokovic won 7-4.
Djokovic is set to claim the world No. 1 ranking when the new rankings are released, thanks to his absence from the U.S. Open last year.
The Serbian will await the winner of Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev for the U.S. Open final.
The U.S. Open final is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. ET, following the conclusion of the semifinal match at 7 p.m. ET.
Djokovic's performance demonstrated his enduring competitiveness and his quest for further Grand Slam success.
