Charlbi Dean, a 32-year-old actress whose star had just begun to rise with a starring role in the Palme d'Or winner "Triangle of Sadness," has died.
Dean died on Monday as a result of an unexpected and sudden illness.
Dean, also known as Charlbi Dean Kriek, was born in South Africa and began her career as a model.
At the age of six, she started modelling, appearing in advertisements and catalogues.
"Spud," a 2010 comedy starring Troye Sivan and John Cleese, was her first film credit.
She then had several film appearances and played Syonide, a recurring character on the CW's "Black Lightning."
Dean's role in "Triangle of Sadness" was her most significant to date, particularly after the film's positive reception at Cannes.
Dean portrayed Yaya, one half of a celebrity couple who embarks on a luxury trip that goes wrong, in the film.
Dean was engaged to Luke Volker, a fellow South African model.
