Brian Hoyer, a seasoned quarterback, is anticipated to be released by the Patriots before 3/15, the first day of the new league year.

In March 2022, Hoyer agreed to a $4 million, two-year contract, with a $3 million full guarantee.

Hoyer also played with the Patriots from 2009 to 2011 and from 2017 to 2018.

Hoyer began the previous campaign as starter Mac Jones' back-up but lost out to youngster Bailey Zappe on the depth chart.

In Week 4's defeat to the Packers in Green Bay, Hoyer started the game but was replaced by Zappe due to a concussion.

Hoyer missed the rest of the season after being placed on injured reserve on October 6.

Hoyer completed 5-of-6 passes for 37 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions to close the season.

Hoyer has also played for the Colts, Browns, Bears, 49ers, and Cardinals in addition to his time with the Patriots.

Hoyer has a career completion percentage of 59.4% while compiling 10,668 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions.
