Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison announced Dicken's name during a press conference on Monday afternoon, praising him as a hero.
Dicken, a 22-year-old man from Seymour, had been shopping with his girlfriend at the mall, according to Ison.
According to Ison, the perpetrator exited a mall bathroom at 5:56 p.m. Sunday and began firing at people in the food court with a rifle.
Dicken drew his handgun and began firing at the gunman within two minutes of the gunman opening fire. The perpetrator tried to flee to the bathroom but collapsed to the ground.
According to Ison, the gunman fired 24 rounds in total. Dicken fired ten shots.
