Roomba robot vacuum manufacturer iRobot will be acquired by Amazon under a signed deal.

The acquisition is estimated to be worth $1.7 billion.

In an all-cash deal, Amazon will purchase iRobot for $61 per share.

Robotic vacuums have been a focus of iRobot since 2002.

Millions of its well-known Roomba vacuums have been sold.

An AI-powered platform for its robot vacuums and mops was introduced by iRobot earlier this year.

Last year, Amazon introduced the $999 Astro smart home robot.

The long-rumored home assistant robot is capable of mapping out floor plans, responding to commands to move between rooms, and even recognising faces.

It can answer questions, play music, and display information such as the weather, just like an Alexa-powered device.
