How the autosave actually works
Inkwell uses your browser's localStorage API, a small storage space every modern browser sets aside for each website. When you type, the current text is written to that space almost instantly. When you reopen the page — even after closing the tab, restarting your browser, or rebooting your computer — Inkwell reads that stored text back into the editor before you've even noticed it loading.
This is different from a cloud notepad: nothing is sent over the network to be saved. The tradeoff is that your notes are tied to that specific browser on that specific device. Clearing your browser's site data, or switching to a different browser, will not carry your notes along — which is exactly why the download button exists.
