The New England Patriots are making a move to strengthen their injury-plagued secondary by acquiring cornerback J.C. Jackson from the Chargers.
In this trade deal, the Patriots and the Chargers will exchange 2025 sixth and seventh-round draft selections.
This acquisition comes in response to the unfortunate injury of rookie corner Christian Gonzalez, who suffered a dislocated shoulder and is likely out for the season.
J.C. Jackson, who initially joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2018, emerged as a Pro Bowler in 2021 and led the NFL in passes defended with 23.
Jackson's promising career took a turn when he signed a substantial contract with the Chargers in 2022 but struggled to fit into their defensive scheme.
Injuries and performance issues led to Jackson's benching and eventual departure from the Chargers, making him an intriguing addition to the Patriots' secondary in their quest to address their defensive woes.
