The New England Patriots are actively making roster changes as they prepare for the 2024 season.

Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has been released by the Patriots, as reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Smith-Schuster, 27 years old, participated in the Patriots' preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers but did not receive any targets.

He was signed by New England last offseason on a three-year contract worth $25.5 million.

Releasing Smith-Schuster now results in a $9.63 million dead cap hit for the Patriots, according to Over the Cap.

During his time with the Patriots, Smith-Schuster played in 11 games, recording 29 catches for 260 yards and one touchdown.

The decision to release him allows Smith-Schuster to potentially join another team before the preseason progresses further.

Smith-Schuster is a former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, adding to his experience and potential value for other NFL teams.
