Haason Reddick Holdout: Will the Jets Be Forced to Trade the Pro-Bowl Edge Rusher?

The New York Jets are facing a growing dilemma as Pro-Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick’s contract holdout continues. After being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles in March for a third-round pick, Reddick and the Jets have failed to reach an agreement on a new deal. The star player is seeking a raise from his current $14.25 million salary, but negotiations have reached a standstill, leaving both sides frustrated.

Jets’ Contract Impasse with Haason Reddick

Since joining the Jets, Reddick has incurred nearly $6 million in fines and lost game checks due to his holdout. While the Jets had hoped Reddick would strengthen their pass rush, his future with the team remains uncertain. Reddick initially requested a trade last month, but Jets general manager Joe Douglas declined the request, holding out hope that a deal could be reached.

However, league insiders believe the Jets may have no choice but to trade Reddick. “They wouldn’t get the same value [a third-round pick], but it would be hard to pay him now,” an anonymous NFC executive told ESPN. “He doesn’t want to be there, and both sides have mismanaged the situation.”

Haason Reddick’s Impact and Jets’ Defensive Struggles

Reddick was a key piece in the Eagles’ defense, racking up 27 sacks over the past two seasons. The Jets were counting on his presence to boost their pass rush, but without him, the defense has struggled. In their latest game, a 32-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Jets allowed 147 rushing yards to backup running back Jordan Mason, with their defense unable to disrupt quarterback Brock Purdy.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh acknowledged the defense’s struggles after the game. “San Francisco did a great job getting rid of the ball quickly,” Saleh said, noting the missed opportunities to bring Purdy down. “We had some chances but couldn’t wrap him up.”

What’s Next for the Jets?

If Reddick’s holdout continues, the Jets will retain his rights in 2025, but that may not be enough to resolve the situation. Multiple league executives speculate that the Jets may need to part ways with Reddick sooner rather than later to avoid further disruption.

As the Jets prepare to take on the Tennessee Titans next Sunday, where they are 3.5-point favorites, all eyes will be on how they handle the growing tension surrounding their star pass rusher.
