Saquon Barkley Contract Stalemate: Will He Play Week 1?
Aaron Rodgers Takes Pay Cut, Joins Jets on $75M Deal
NFL
Aaron Rodgers recently signed a new contract with the New York Jets, and he's forgoing some money in order to try and assist the team to win a Super Bowl.
According to a person familiar with the negotiations, Rodgers and the Jets reached an agreement on a new two-year deal with a $75 million guarantee on Wednesday.
The four-time NFL MVP's previous contract, which he signed with Green Bay, still contained roughly $110 million in guaranteed money.
However, Rodgers is accepting less money from New York in a decision that also seems to confirm his time with the Jets would probably go past this season.
The Jets traded three draft picks to the Packers for Aaron Rodgers, including a conditional second-round pick that could become a first-round pick if Rodgers plays at least 65% of the snaps in 2023.
This year, Green Bay also forfeited a first- and fifth-round pick in addition to the quarterback.
A revised deal that Rodgers already accepted helped forward the transaction.
A fully guaranteed $58.3 million option bonus that was owed to him was postponed until the following year.
Jets saved money by paying Rodgers the minimum ($1.2M) in his initial 3 months, allowing more roster changes and signings.
