Former NFL tight end Russ Francis tragically lost in a plane crash near Lake Placid, along with retired Air Force Commander Richard McSpadden.
Russ Francis, who played for the Patriots and 49ers, was known for his contributions to both teams and winning Super Bowl XIX with the 49ers.
During his NFL career, Francis recorded 393 receptions, 5,262 yards, and 40 touchdowns.
In addition to football, Francis had a deep passion for aviation, as seen in his acquisition of Lake Placid Airways.
Francis was drafted by the New England Patriots as the No. 16 overall pick in the 1975 NFL Draft.
